Ray, I agree you were right to belittle the caller who could not back up his claim about the new GOP
1 example he could have used was when Nixon, a member of the old GOP appointed Burger who was considered a "conservative" then and Burger voted in the majority of Roe v Wade. I guess those were the days when GOP believed in rights of privacy of women
The right to privacy does not appear in the Constitution.
Anyone familar with Roe v Wade, regardless of where they stand on the abortion issue, knows how poorly constructed this decision was. Roe v Wade was a "political" decision handed down by the Court much more so than a legal decision.
Burger was so embarassed by this decision that he delayed it being announced so that Nixon would not have to swear the oath of President with the knowledge that this decision was now part of American law.
Douglass was a real piece of work. Many consider him a great Justice, but the truth is, he used his position as Justice to enact all manner of ideas that could never be won at the ballot box.
I should have known you would support the right of a woman to murder her baby. I guess I just never thought about it.
You did not let me down.
By the way, I know you do not think much of me, but at least I can fully support any conclusion I have come to. The caller this morning heard someone say something he thought was clever and so he repeated it without so much as giving it a thought as to why that description fit.
I support a women's right to end an unwanted pregnancy. I do not believe it is murder as do many other Americans. Roe v Wade is a flawed decision because it did not go far enough to shut the door on all the lawsuits brought about by the right wingers who care more about fetuses than they do about living breathing people. Who else would force a teen age girl to have bring a fetus related to her father to term and then deny her welfare benefits to help take care of the baby later. Who else wants to try juveniles as adults so they can mete out harsher punishment including the death penalty. I thought only God was permitted to end life. I can respect( not agree with) the Catholic stand on abortion because they are also against the death penalty, of course birth control is another issue. This new religious right position does not seem too christianlike to me. It's not that I do not think much of you, it is your positions I do not agree with, sort of like your thoughts on the legislators of our state. I am sure you feel you are right,( on the social issues) so I do not think you are a bad person. Just misguided
I was serious about you beating up on the guy. he should not make a statement he cannot at least try to back it up. But that is what you attract. Did Dean really use the term Nazi? or are you using your supporting "facts" again moved arounf=d the way you like.
Of course your associates at Fox can do it whenever they want ( leon levesque, Obama fist bump) etc. You do come up with supporting "facts " for your conclusions, but they are the facts the way you like to see them, much like poll data.
Seperation of Church and State does appear in the Constitution and until America comes up with a definition of what constitutes a person, we should not let religion dictate a women's life. Not believing that right to privacy exists in the Bill of Rights is what you and people like Bork may believe but not everyone agress with you on the interpretation. Hence the ongoing battle. I just love the way you make the absolute statement like you are the alpha and omega of the issue. You probaly don't like Darwin either, and my guess is that you would have hanged Copernicus if you had been around then.
No problem When is Stepahnie going to file aginst the King Middle School, so this can go to the courts? Things went well yesterday. Don't you think? At least the Maine GOP did not make the same mistake they made selecting Woodcock to be their man. It's good to kknow that the mainstream republican in Maine is still moderste.
I am very proud that I supported a principled, decent man like Dean Scontras. Even if I had known the result in advance, I would have still chosen to stand with him.
If I must choose between being popular and being right, I will always choose being right.
It is much easier to swim with the flowing river than to stand firmly in the middle of it and attempt to divert its direction. The river, however, will not over-take you as long as your feet are planted firmly.
There are many ways to attack a decision that appears to be out of sink with the law.
There are a number of options being considered. I would not begin to think about speaking for Stephanie Anderson or what her intentions might be. She has not disclosed them to me, nor has she empowered me to speak in her behalf.
The easiest solution to this issue in terms of time and money is to have the Legislature clarify its intention with regard to the law.
That is easily done by having a bill sponsored that clarifies the law as it was originally intended prior to the AG's report.
I find it un-imaginable that the AG's office would render an opinion that leaves open the slightest notion that not all sexual abuse of a child is harmful to their health and welfare.
I believe the general public will agree on that issue and much like the situation with Cameron, a little public out-cry and media coverage, they will cave.
"That is easily done by having a bill sponsored that clarifies the law as it was originally intended prior to the AG's report".
I thought the AG report reinforced the original intent. Kids being abused or neglected by "adults" You guys are the ones that want to intimidate 13 year olds who are having consenual sex with each other into not coming forward to talk to their school nurse. End of problem for you "see no evil...
Good Luck with the bill. I doubt that we will hear about it until after the election

I live in Westbrook with my wonderful wife Dee Dee and our four children. We have been residents of Maine for a little over 22 years, moving here from Florida in 1985.

Will you ask her when she is going to file suit against the school for not reporting?
