And The Beat Goes On:

As more information rolls in, it is obvious that the King Middle School birth control proposal is more about government intrusion into parental rights (can you say... Nazi Germany) than it is about the health and well-being of 11 - 13 year old girls.

This opens the door to all sorts of danger. Once the high school boys or perverts on the street hear this, the child will be a sacrificial lamb, who can easily be talked into submitting to them. As long as they know the child can walk into school the next day and be treated without parent's knowledge, this can be a possibility. Not many 11 year olds are anatomically ready for this sort of behavior.

I think it was on Shawn Hannity radio where a guy called about sending his daughter to both Catholic and public school. His daughter was talking about God to her classmates, and a teacher told the child that she wasn't allowed to talk to her friends in school about God. But the school can not only teach our children about sex whether it be straight sex, bisexual sex, or gay sex, but this will in courage sex which can and will create diseases and all kinds of problems for the kids... We all know what needs to be done. But no one seems to want to step out, except for Ray and Ted...
Bless you guys!!!

The welfare of the child has to be the responsibility of the parents. They ultimately are the people who shape and mold the child's life according to their religious, and moral beliefs.

The political views of school administrators and teachers have no business in the family life in this regard.
They have chosen a profession as "teachers" of information relative to the subject, not, to be influencing students on such subjects as sex, and their (teachers) politics.

Before giving children any form of medication oral or dermal)the parents should attend a mandatory seminar. Then the parent(s)must give written permission for the school nurse/doctor to dispense only what type of medications the parent(s) pre-authorize and that they, the parents, take full responsibility of any reactions or consequences.

First I do not understand the privacy law on kids under 18. Is that a state or federal law? If it is a state law that dam it have the legislators change it. How can there be a law that keeps medical or any other pertinent information about a child from their parent. Please tell me what could be that critical that a parent should not know?

That would at least let the parents know what is happening with their kids. If there are parents that would beat their kids after finding out than we have laws protecting the kids against that.

Second why has there been no effort to have a petition to recall the total school board. I tried to find out why back when they had no concept of the finances of the school but got nowhere. There must be a way to remove the total board and start over. I know that recall elections have happened else where we must demand that it happen here.

Do you guys even have a clue why the school made such a controversial decision? I doubt it because right wingers only have one way of thinking. The school board made such a decision because Maine tops the teen pregnancy chart. What would be your solution to stop teen pregnancy? Obviously, you don't have any because none of you have proposed one other than complaining. Birth control is the Portland Public schools decision, and the country, and matter of fact the world knows that. What would be your solution to stop teen sex and pregnancy? Well, if you are so sure that your teen is not having sex, what worried about it? The program is there for irresponsible parents. If you are responsible, why do you care?

I have worked in public school systems and one of my biggest concerns is that offering birth control to girls in this age range may lead to them being sexually exploited.

If they are dating, many girls in this age range are dating OLDER BOYS. A teenage boy dating a younger girl who probably has never had sex with another boy isn't as worried about STDs as he is worried about her getting pregnant. If he's having sex with her, he is also likely to have a great deal of control over her and would be able to convince her to seek birth control at the clinic.

Why make it easier for a child to be sexually exploited? At the age we're talking about, that's what it is - exploitation. It's not a choice, it's a crime.
