Whom do you trust?

Not to minimize the seriousness of the Wall Street crisis, but Ray wonders if the situation really is as calamitous as people are claiming. With all sides putting their own political spin on the $700 billion bailout proposal, it's hard to know whom to trust.

You are a piece of work !
You always cite facts as your credo, but you likee to leave them out of your diatribes when they do not suit your agenda.
November 21, 2007 was when the bipartisan commission on presidential debates announced what the dates and who the moderators would be for the Fall 08 debates of president and VP candidates
Tell me Ray, were Obama and McCain the picks then?
Seems to me Romney and Clinton were pretty strong then.
You and your RWW friends are just crybabies. You tried to make it sound like it was a conspiracy.

McCain has had plenty of time to protest the choice the moderators. Your claim that Gwenn will be a biased moderator , because she has written a book about Obama who she probably admires is moot. She was chosen before the candidates were.
News flash
Most journalists ,the ones that can write instead of rant,do write books to make money.

Here it is Ray in case yu need to see the "Facts"

"Paul G. Kirk, Jr. and Frank J. Fahrenkopf, Jr., co-chairmen of the non-partisan Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD), today announced the moderators for the 2008 general election presidential and vice presidential debates. The moderators, and the schedule and locations for the debates (as announced on November 21, 2007), are as follows:"

FRom a review of Jim's novel. And just before an election pitting a rightwing born again W aginst a liberal Gore
Imagine letting him be a moderator.

"The election is eight days away. Republican nominees James Meredith, a fundamentalist Christian whose ambitions border on white supremacy, is pitted against four reporters who have just discovered damaging information that could ruin his career. What unfolds during The Last Debate will change the course of electoral politics and the news business forever. As "the ultimate insider-outsider" ( Washington Post ), and as a moderator of presidential debates past and present, journalist and PBS news anchor Jim Lehrer knows the world he writes about only too well. His novel--a satirical and absorbing story of the behind-the-scenes world of news journalism--also exposes the duplicitous posing and posturing of made-for-TV political events. And with the 2000 elections looming ahead, the targets of his satire--religious fundamentalists, self-important journalists, feral network programming heads--could not be more timely.

"Bob Scheiffers book Acting president
Imagine dissing the icon of the conservative movement. How can he be allowed to be a moderator?

"Editorial Reviews
From Library Journal
For national TV correspondent Schieffer and his co-author, the story of the Reagan presidency is the story of his advisors--their opinions, policies, schemes, intrigues, and misdeeds--not Ronald Reagan's leadership or vision. Reagan was a disengaged, passive president to whom decision making and policy making meant hiring experts and following their advice. This environment was ripe for misadventures such as the Iran-contra scandal, where aides, in Reagan's name, made national policy, unchecked and unmanaged. The authors speculate that perhaps Reagan was too lazy or too content and satisfied a man to exercise leadership and manage his presidency. But they also recognize that most Americans have forgiven Reagan for any shortcomings since he entertained them and demanded neither sacrifices nor great efforts. Recommended for most libraries".

Ray i know you did not come up with that statement all by yourself this morning. You were just spouting Fox's line.
It's ok

Ditto. You seem to spend as much time as I do here.

Sorry, but you are all wet on this one.
Fox is just ticked because none of their right wingers have been picked.

Writing a book should not disqualify Gwenn from moderating.

You notice Ray has not responded.
He knows that was a very Fox driven biased comment he made on his show. I guess he does not have much respect for his own profession.

I'll stay in Maine. You didn't mention they are registering the homeless too. I am sure you are ripped about that.

FERRARO: Let me just say, first of all, that I almost resent, Vice

From Ferraro Bush debate
"Vice President Bush, your patronizing attitude that you have to teach me about foreign policy. I've been a member of Congress for six years; I was there when the embassy was held hostage in Iran, and I have been there and I've seen what has happened in the past several months; seventeen months of your administration. Secondly, please don't....

I hope Biden paid attention to this, because it is a new day now and he will not be able to get away with any remote remarks like Bush used.

Palin is a fragile person and will cry foul. She is not as tough as Hillary .

Jeez Bruce,

Gotta little time on your hands?

Do you realize I can't just sit at the computer and respond to every comment everyone directs at me the moment they direct it?

Somebody in Maine has to work to pay the taxes for all of their silly programs.

I came up with the Gwen Ifill stuff all on my own. I do not read talking points.

I figure people who read from talking points or tele-prompters do not actually believe what they are saying or they would not need help knowing what to say, it should just come to them from instinct, from their beliefs.

I do not used notes when I speak to groups because I only say what I believe. I do not need coaching on my opinion.

Your side still does not get it. Journalism is the practice of investigating a story and providing the facts of it absent personal bias.

What I do is all about personal bias. It is all about my opinion. That is why they hired me.

I make it fair by allowing guests on my show whose ideas I disagree with. They provide the balance, not me. I provide the forum for them to provide their opinion.

I think Gwen Ifill moderating this debate knowing she is putting out this book is ridiculous. She is supposed to be a journalist, meaning her personal bias is not supposed to enter the equation.

The point is, she will be portrayed as a journalist who is fair and without a personal dog in this hunt.

If they came out tonight and said, "In the interest of full disclosure, Gwen Ifill has authored a book about the age of Obama" I would be fine with it.

They won't and the sham of journalism will continue.

If you review the debates I have moderated over the years, they have lacked my bias. I know people can do it, but we have disclosed up front, for example, if I have publicly endorsed a candidate or issue being presented that evening.

This is no different that Chris Potholm putting out polls, speaking as an un-interested observer in the media and then find out he is working for the candidate that he praised two weeks earlier with his poll.

I guess that kind of crap is okay in your world as long as it allows your side to win, keep power and enact your agenda in the march to socialism.

Ray Richardson said...

By the way, YOU forgot to mention that Gwen Ifil said she DID NOT tell the debate commission. Thus far, they have not commented on it.

I do not have a problem with Gwen Ifill. I actually watch the newshour with Leher (spelling) when I can.

She should just disclose it up front and then move on with the debate and that ends it.

Bruce said...

Disclose what? They all write books. I assume the commission vetted the moderator candidates as they wanted to.
She is a moderator. I assume it is an honor to moderate these debates and she is professional enough to deal with it in a good manner.

I would expect Olberman or Oreilly would never get this chance.

Listen to your tapes of yesterday's show to what you said. You were just fanning the flames for Fox as you were told to, no doubt.

Bruce said...

It is my time, I am self employed.
I believe it is important to stand up to typical right wing conservatives like yourself.
As you know, it only takes minutes to find info on the internet. That is probably why you have your lap top on during the show. Not just to read emails.

"I came up with the Gwen Ifill stuff all on my own. I do not read talking points.
Any of your listeners interested in buying a bridge?

You said
"She should just disclose it up front and then move on with the debate and that ends it".
I doubt it.The rww will be watching for any chance tonight to declare bias, because they know that is all this campaign has going for it.

As for the book, I have read that it is only going to have one chapter on Obama
You guys are upset that a woman is the moderator, because you know Palin will not be able to claim gender bias on the questions. Wasn't that a lucky thing for us when Gwenn was chosen last november. Who knew McCain would be so desperate to please your conservative base that he would pick someone like Palin.

Your comments are so typical of conervative blather.

BTW
Are you going to watch the Mayor when he is on Real Life Real Talk

Sounds like an interesting forum for friday

Jeez Ray It's your blog.
This is part of what keeps your show on the air. and enables you to pay your taxes.
By the way does Ray Richardson pay any taxes in Westbrook? I ask because you keep mentioning taxes all the time.

Hey Bruce, Ray is uncharacteristically mute on this thread now. It seems when he doesn't have much of defensible position, he just moves on. His latest topic switches the focus to the state elections and diminishes the importance of the Presidential election.

The truth is by any measure, Palin has become a political liability with only thirty days of national exposure. She was chosen to get the far right wing of the Republican party excited about McCain's campaign. As can be attested by Ray's enthusiasm, it worked. If you are pro life, anti gay, pro death penalty, the rest is "all good" as my daughter used to say!

Bruce said...

Right you are Rusell
Like Big Mac, when he runs out of defensible positions, he tries to shift the focus.
Talk show hosts in general don't like it when they get bogged down by someone asking them questions.

I am still trying to figure out what he wanted Gwenn to disclose.
If she had stood up and mentioned she was writing a book about blacks in the political arena, Ray would have accused her of commercialism in promoting it to the national audience.
Is each mderator supposed to stand up and tell us who they are going to vote for? So much for secret ballot. There is a reason why Fox does not have many moderators out there.
