mmmm...that's going to be tough...the soviet republic of tree hugging maine will be an uphill battle...again libs i'm going to quote that facts....bay of funday tidal power....the big A dam...no nukes for maine...the amount of money spent to defeat these power projects would probably buy 10 million barrels of heating oil...the next one will be the wood pellets....the paper/pulp/wood products mills are closing so no more "scrap" wood...so that means cutting woodlots for pellets...Ray...you can do the math...they'll be more screaming and protesting about killing trees for pellets/firewood/biomass...than there has been for 1000 plum creeks....do you know there's silver and gold in maine...grampa had an old gold mine in guilford....did you know they found copper ore upstate...i believe it was a 200 square mile deposit...do you know why we are not processing these finds....mmmmmmmmmm....the same reason we'll never have sustainable engery resources in this state...wind and solar are not the answer for maine...it is a feel good attempt with government support....no different than any other government program...out west maybe...but not here...too cold...to cloudy...and yes...not enough wind...do forget...i'm talking about sustainable power...like hydro/nuke/fossil...fuel cells are the answer...making hydrogen cheap is the solution...as i have said in the past...a fuel cell in everyone's basement and business...no more cmp...or power lines....right now i believe it takes 2.3 gallons of fuel to create 1 gallon of hydrogen...not cost effective yet...and of course distribution....and big oil and....etc...

Conceptually, the idea of this project sounds great. We definitely need to find renewable energy going forward that takes us away from dependency on foreign oil. However, this project seems to fall short.

I will hope that it is still in developmental stages, but in its current state, the web site, while having some other information on it, really seems more designed to drum up support for a petition to get Congress to authorize more drilling in places that are currently off limits. If they can add a lot more to the sections for alternative sources of energy, they might have something, but right now it is just more of the same old, same old.

The movement to "drill now" is such a tired argument and is very short-sighted. The time it will take to get results from new drilling is valuable time we could be utilizing to build up other forms of energy. Not to mention the oil companies have quite a bit of available drilling space off the shores of this country that they are CHOOSING not to drill in. Who knows what they might find if they would stop whining about places they shouldn't be drilling in and focus in on what they already have available. To be pressuring Congress to open up still more territory for this doesn't seem right.

If we truly want to get off of foreign oil, as well as lighten the load on our wallets, we need to focus resources on the alternatives. THAT is what we need to "do here...and do now...", not keep on with the same old, same old.

I want to take a minute to respond to the two individuals who took the time to give me that great feedback. I appreciate your comments, and take heart...the website and the project re in the infancy stage. We have a long way to go here, but we didn't get into this position overnight. I will say that the negativity you expressed, and the pessimism are echoed all over Maine, but what choice do we have? We can either concede defeat to the "my voice doesn't matter" thinking, or we can get fired up and take action. I want to send a direct message to anyone who thinks this was a politically motivated project. This is a non-profit, non-partisan organization with NO ties to anyone, or debt of any kind. The plan will become clearer as I continue to refine it and articulate it better. Remember that beautiful thing about this plan is that YOU get to have a say in what it eventually looks like, and how it is implimented.
