Fears and Smears

Ray casts a skeptical eye on Barack Obama's claim that if John McCain were elected President, he would outlaw abortion. He also questions Joe Biden's answer to the abortion question.

He said he accepts the tenants of his church that life begins at conception. Accepting something and believing it are too different things

I accept the no helmet law as prescribed in our state for motorcycle riders. I do not believe it is right.
You, as usual, misconstrue what he said.
As for Obama saying voting for McCain will result in overturning Roe v Wade,as you stated that is a good possiblity if mCCain appoints two new judges, Instead of saying social conervatives, you use terms like strict constructionist. typical.
You show how "dumb" you are by saying Obama does not understand the process. he thinks people are smart enought to connect the dots.

I don't understand why you can't understand someone being personaly gainst abortion, but not wanting to force their views on someone else.
Ther a re lots of things that i might not do myself, but that does not give me the right to tell others they cannot do it because whatever it is ,goes against my beliefs.
Yoou folks never answer the punishment side of some getting an illegal abortion should Roe be overturned. I gues you would execute the 14 year old who was raped by a drunken father, along with the Dr. and anyone else who helped her get it.

BRUCE:
Ray is not from these parts and too young to remember the days before birth control when girls who skipped a period would take a coat hanger to themselves, find a back alley abortionist or take a trip to New York City. The government will never eliminate all abortions in this country any more than they will confiscate all the guns. The trick in both examples above is to keep as many of them as safe and legal as possible.

The "Christian Talaban" (what I call the religious right) have a right to impose on their kids whatever they believe. Take Sarah Palin and abstinence - OOPS! That doesn't work too well does it?

If Ray insists his minor daughter carry a baby to full term after she was raped by some wacko like that guy in Hollis, that's OK by me. As long as HE pays the counseling and psychiatric bills that will ensue in future years And HE doesn't try impose those draconian beliefs on MY daughter.

I get it. You two apparently do not believe in much, so allowing anything is okay. That's fine, this is America and you are allowed to be as dispassionate about real injustice as you choose.

Bruce, did you see the interview? I suspect not, for if you did, you would see that my characterization of the Biden statements were accurate.

I am not draconian, nor the taliban.

I have beliefs that I will stand for, regardless of how much the pop culture mentality attacks it.

It is your narrow-minded, agenda-driven thinking that has caused this nation to become so polarized. You all are unwilling to consider an alternative point of view because you are too busy being told what to think by "your guys."

I am willing to allow and understand the person who says, "It is not a child until it is viable outside the womb." The person that makes that statement at least is consistent. If it is not a child until viable outside the womb, then ending it is not killing a child.

Bruce, get real. What a bunch of liberal baloney. Accepting is not believing?

That is a good one. You need to do a little homework to go toe to toe with me. You may not agree with me, but I can back up every assertion I make with facts.

Back to the abortion issue.

People who say they believe it is a child at conception and then still allow for abortion are not noble, they are, at the very least, enormously un-principled and more than likely completely dishonest.

Saying it is a child at conception and then allowing it to be legally killed is murder. It is no different than killing a child who is one month outside the womb.

For anyone to suggest otherwise is simply a complete farce, intellectually dishonest and un-trustworthy.

The willful taking of a life is murder. If you believe it is a life and you support policies that allow the life to be taken, you then support the murdering of another person.

This is not even complicated .... unless it is all about political gain and nothing about principle.

Again, let me be perfectly clear so that when you twist my words, they are at least here for others to read and see what I think, not what you say I think.

I can accept people who say they do not believe it is a life until it is viable outside the womb. Although I disagree with them, I understand their thinking and can at least appreciate their consistency.

Those, however, who say they believe it is a life at conception and still allow the legal ending of that life, I believe they are supporters of murder .... killing an innocent child for political gain.

Disgraceful, disgusting and the clear evidence of what is wrong with our nation.

By the way Bruce, I have been very clear about what I believe.

First and foremost, the issue of abortion should be decided at the state level. Ending Roe v Wade would accomplish that and allow the abortion issue to be decided state by state based on the value set of the people living there.

Secondly, I would not send the "child" to the death chamber (what a load, you really sounded like your buddy Howard Dean with that one ... did he write it?).

The child should have consequences for their action and as we do in this country, the legislature of each state would determine the penalty for having an abortion if that state deems it illegal, just as they do with any other crime.

Further, I believe there should be severe penalties imposed upon the doctor, probably suspending their license immediately until a full review and take place.

Again, the penalties for performing an illegal abortion would be determined by the legislative body of the state it occured in.

Lastly and I have said and written this for years. If you rape a woman, you should be put to death.

If you state does not allow the death penalty, you should be confined to prison for the rest of your life without possibility of parole.

Sexaul assualt is a heinous crime and the only way we will ever stem its tide is to swiftly and severely punish those who engage in such an action.

From the Associated Press:
-------------------------

Two prominent U.S. Catholic bishops said Tuesday that Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden contradicted church teaching by saying in a weekend interview that determining when human life begins is a "personal and private" matter of religious faith he would not impose on others.

The statement from Cardinal Justin Rigali and Bishop William Lori said Biden, who appeared Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," is the latest case of the U.S. Catholic hierarchy correcting a Catholic politician.

Asked on the program about when life begins, Biden said: "Look, I know when it begins for me. It's a personal and private issue. For me, as a Roman Catholic, I am prepared to accept the teachings in my church."

He added that while he believes life begins "at the moment of conception," it would inappropriate to impose that view on others in a pluralistic society.

The bishops said Biden was right to say human life begins at conception. But the church "does not teach this as matter of faith; it acknowledges it as a matter of objective fact," they said.

"Protection of innocent human life is not an imposition of personal religious conviction but a demand of justice," they added.

A spokesman for Biden did not immediately respond Tuesday to requests for comment.

Rigali, of Philadelphia, is chairman of the U.S. bishops' Committee on Pro-Life Activities. Lori, of Bridgeport, Conn., is chairman of the bishops' Committee on Doctrine.

Ray said "Lastly and I have said and written this for years. If you rape a woman, you should be put to death."

What if a women rapes a man?
I know it is rare ,but can and does happen.

At least the catholics are consistent with their position and are against the death penalty as well as abortion

I understand your point. Many people see opposing abortion because it is murder and supporting capital punishment as being in consistent, but I have always seen capital punishment as just that, an appropriate sentence for a heinous action.

Bruce, let me inform you on Mr. Obama's position on abortion, a position that I lable nothing short of murder. And since you view Mr. Obama as the only person who can possibly save us all from ourselves I'm sure you don't know this, but if you do, then you, sir are a supporter of murder.
At a Chicago hospital, it was routine practice that if a baby survived a late-term abortion procedure it was placed in a "soiled linen closet" to die. One of the nurses who worked in this ward finally had enough of the heinous practice, and through her testimony before Congress, a bill was introduced to the Illinois Legislature that would have required hospital staff to provide full and complete medical care to babies that survived late-term abortion proceedures. Mr. Obama opposed this bill, and in giving his reasons for opposition, on the floor of the Illinois Legislature, he cited two reasons. First, "that hospital staff should not have the burden of decision placed upon them." In other words, hospital staff should not have to decide if the baby should be given a chance to life. His second reason was "we should not bestow 'personhood' upon these babies." Mr. Obama can wrap it up in all the nice words he wants, the bottom line remains the same. Mr. Obama is in favor of infanticide. Murder by another name. But, hey Bruce, don't just take my word for it, check the facts for yourself at the Illinois State Legislature website and the Congressional Record. But, then again, being true to your liberalism, you'll ingnore these truths and facts about your savior and continue the tired rant about how the Republican's will overturn Roe V. Wade. Ray, I agree with you. It should be overturned and left to the individual states to determine for themselves. How anyone with any sanity to them at all could vote for a man who supports infanticide is just beyond me.
