Monday on the Morning Show

Today on the show, Ray and Ted talked about Colin Powell's endorsement of Barack Obama, as well as Ray's perception of Obama's real agenda. Also State Rep. Rich Cebra stopped by to talk about how the tourist industry fared this summer and RNC spokesman Alex Conant called in to talk about the final days of the presidential campaign.

My God, what is in those funny round things you have been smoking?

First, where has every payroll check John McCain received ever come from? Where did his education come from? Me thinks the Government. So, on that topic only, what is the difference between him and Obama?

An independent non partisan examination of McCain's and Obama's income tax plans show that a family of four who earns $1,000,000 - a million dollars a year will pay $48,000 more in Federal Taxes than under McCain. Round numbers, say today they take home $800K, next year they take home $750K.

After next year, they decide they have had it, they don't want to pay those taxes and are going on welfare? Their kids are going to a community college, not Princeton, Yale or? They'd rather live in a mobile home (with wheels, they will only go so far) than their 5,000 square foot home with pool and sauna?

BTW: At 100K Obama is $1,200 less taxes and at $50K he is $300 less taxes over McCain.

I really think we need a specific example of what you are talking about. What specific program proposed by Obama is going to have what effect on who? You demand specificity in asking about Obama's qualifications. How about some from you now?

You always could pack up DeDe and the kids, move off to a cabin in Alaska. As a bonus, Palin would be your governor! You could fend for yourself, live off the wild and pay no taxes.

On principal, refuse the $3,000 or so check from the state that they send because that, after all, is "redistribution of wealth" to you from the oil companies. Or is that kind of socialism under Palin's rules acceptable?? I don't get it? OK under Palin, socialism under Obama???? HUH??

What is Ray's America like? Rows of Hummers and Escalades for the rich to get around to their mansions , while all the rest of peddle on Chinese bicycles to our shacks? A country of Wal-Mart employees wishing we could be like the Ken Lays of the world. Medical care only for those who could pay for it. Maybe we could get some Chinese missionaries to care for the rest of us. How would there be a middle class?

You need to help me envision Ray's America

Close your eyes and picture.
the rich being able to decide which poor people are worthy of their support, based on for example what religion they belong. Picture a worker getting killed in an unsfe work environment and the employer giving the widow flowers and chocolates and then telling her she has to move out of the company owned rent she had been living in.
picture kids kneeling at hteir desk before school starts saying a mandatory prayer.
picture a 14 year old forced to bring the fetus to birth that was the result of a rape by a drunken relative.
Picture accumulation of capital by families through non taxed estates so we end up with the aristocrat class that we divorced from 200 years ago.

Picture the repeal of a law that allows a mother or father to take time from work to care for a sick child without fear of losing their job.
Shall i go on

Oh and picture someone getting arrested because they did not have an american flag in their window

That one reminds me of germany in the late 30's
Lots of flag waving then.

and picture a world wher someone gets beat up and the police give them a Charles Atlas subscription and tell them to buck up.

You are not refering to the Obama Brown Shirts are you?

My vision of this country is very different than yours or Obama's.

I believe we as Americans and human beings have an obligation to the very old, the very young, those who are incapable of taking care of themselves and our veterans.

If you are able-bodied, able-minded, you need to be self-reliant. Why should my family or countless other families have to do without because someone who is capable of taking care of themselves simply refuses to do so?

We are not talking about people who cannot take care of themselves, we are talking about people who will not take care of themselves.

There is a huge difference between giving your neighbor a helping hand up and giving a person the license to live off the government because they simply are too lazy to contribute.

Please do not tell me this does not happen. I have concrete proof of it, have provided it to DHHS and they simply ignore it because it makes them look bad.

The problem is, you guys seem to be willing to accept the fraud and abuse in order to get the assistance.

We do not have to have both. We can get rid of the fraud and abuse by putting in real safeguards and restrictions. It seems you all just want to overlook these issues because you are afraid that tightening up the programs will lead to their ending.

What you apparently fail to realize is that if we helped the truly needy and ended the abuse, waste and fraud, we would have more than enough financial resources to serve those folks.

I am certain we will never agree on the path, but I have a feeling we agree on the destination, a prosperous America where all have a chance to succeed and where all who truly need help get it.

Russell,

How can you compare a government grant education with a person who got their education by serving a year in the military for every year they attended the academy.

Are you serious?

Even Joe Biden, his running mate is saying that our enemies do not take him seriously.

Come on man, I know you "hate da bush" but really, this guy?

If you want big government that intrudes on your life, vote Obama.

He will make government intrusion and dependence the American way of life.

Bruce said...

By having a father who was an admiral McCain got into the Academy over someone who was probably a lot smarter and who probably would have been a better pilot and not gotten shot down or crashed other planes along the way.

McCain was the recepient of affirmative action. he got to go to one of the countries finest schoos even though he was not scholastically qualified.

We ( I ) do not accept the fraud and abuse, that happens. but you guys think anyone who has not lost both leags and is blind in both eyes are malingerers if they are on assistance.
I applauded the sentence given to the woman last week who collected unemployment checks while she was working.
The difference here is i do not want to scrap the whole system because of the abuse by a few.
Apples and oranges lawbreakers going unpunished and qualified people getting assistance. Any program is going to have the few who take advantage in a bad way.
I know some people who work in DHHS too ( they are taxpayers too) and they love catching the ones who abuse the system. They know the resources are limited and they want the needy to get them, not the malingerers
You don't believe that.

BTW you mentioned most legislation comes at the rquest of people on govt payrolls in maine. DUH !
Who wants tougher road laws POLICEMEN, who wants tougher fire codes (like sprinklers in every house) FIREMEN.

Les Gibson said...

Boy, Russell and Bruce, I applaud you both for not being afraid to admit that you've overdosed on the Marxist kool-aid.

For you to say that there's not fraud in the welfare system, which is sorely in need of reform, is another example of your head-in-the-sand mentality.

I wonder if you would have the same opinion if your socialist hero Sen. Obama said there was fraud in the welfare system? I bet if he said it, you would absolutely believe if. But since it's us evil conservatives saying it, why, we must be lying.

Bruce, your brainless comments concerning John McCains entry into the Naval Academy and his shoot-down over North Vietnam are dispicable and show just how ignorant you really are.

It is true that having an Admiral for a father makes it easier to gain entry into Annapolis, just like my daughter will have a perference in admission as I am a US Navy retiree. But, as you liberal socialists always do, you refuse to see the rest of the story.

A prospective Academy entrant must still meet the STRICT ACADEMIC STANDARDS to gain entry. So I could lobby until I'm blue in the face on my daughters behalf, but if she doesn't have the grades, she doesn't get in. The same held true for John McCain. To say otherwise is just a lie, but then again, you socialist liberals are all about the lie.

I would love to see your pacifist backside in the same type of North Vietnamese prison as the Hanoi Hilton. You'd be crying like a baby after 5 minutes, and your captors would more than likely have put a bullet in your brain just to shut up your sniveling.

Since your ilk is to cowardly to actually stand up and go into harms way to defend this country, you make yourself feel self-important by making baseless attacks against those who have worn the uniform of this country and served with honor and courage.

Your enlightenment indeed burns very dimly.

Les Gibson said...

By the way, Russel and Bruce, since you two seem to have such compassion in your heart for the deadbeats who commit welfare fraud on a daily basis, why don't both of you give the handout that your socialist hero Sen Obama is going to give you to the local shelters?

Or, is it do as I say, not as I do.

Ray -
The Powell endorsement issue seems to have escaped you. He addressed the charge that "race" was the basis for his endorsement of Obama by saying that if race actually was his basis, he would have endorsed him months ago...THINK ABOUT IT! He basically voiced an opinion saying that he believes that Barack Obama has a more refined sense of judgment concerning the problems that we face today - which the Republicans keep proving over and over again with their lack of substance or position on REAL issues. Listening to them and watching their rallies makes me feel like I'm in the checkout line at the groicery store reading the headlines of the National Enquirer. The things that Palin is saying would get a high school student thrown out of school these days - it's called bullying and "hate" crime. Preying on public fear and racial/ethnic prejudice is not considered to be a strong leadership skill. Do you agree?

Les Gibson said...

Thea, the Powell endorsement is nothing more than a sell out, and Obama pretty much let the cat out of the bag by saying Powell would have a place in his administration.

Coincedence? I think not.

For you to say that the Republicans have no substance in their policy positions is typical libaral claptrap. McCain actually has a plan for moving America forward instead of the mindless mantra of Hope and Change. Hope for what? Can't say. Change for who? Don't know. It doesn't get any shallower than that.

Seems you've been listening to to much Jerimiah Wright or Bill Ayers to say that Gov. Palin is spreading "hate speech". But, then again, that's what all you liberals call it when anyone dares to disagree with you.

Were you at Gov. Palin's appearance in Bangor last Thursday? I dare say you weren't. I was and I can't think of one single thing that she said that qualifies for 'hate speech'. All she did was present a differing plan to the one the socialist hero is presenting.

Gee, I call that the free exchange of ideas. You liberals call it 'hate speech'.

Ridiculous.

Ray Richardson said...

Les,

Sorry I missed you at the rally. Palin and Greenwood were great. I loved being there amongst a lot of great Maine people.

Thea,

I will not say anything negative about General Powell as I have the utmost respect for him, but to suggest that race did not play an overwhelming role in this flies in the face of common sense.

Have you read Powell's book? Are you familar with his thoughts on the Iraq War?

Until last Sunday, it would have been a stretch to suggest that Colin Powell and Barack Obama shared common ground on the issues. If in fact they do share common ground on the big issues facing America, then General Powell was not honest in countless statements over the last decade with the public.

I do not believe there is a dis-honest bone in General Powell's body, therefore, I am left to conclude that race played a big factor in his decision.

The General's own words say that race played a role.

Can you imagine General Tommy Franks saying that he supports John McCain and race was not the only issue on his mind?

How do you think that would play in the New York Traitor?

Powell's own words suggest he does not share common ground with Barack Obama on the issues.

I guess we are all left to come to our own conclusion about what the deciding factor was.

Bruce said...

Les said "and Obama pretty much let the cat out of the bag by saying Powell would have a place in his administration"

Les you were not listening
Obama said he wouls certainly be getting some advice from Powell but that there was no formal job for him at this time.
Powell showed great wisdom in his endorsement.

Les
Can you read? I acknowledged fraud and abuse and said I do not accept it.
Every program will have people who take advantage of it and fraud and abuse will occur. That is no reason to totally end a program
I stand behind my affirmative action comment about McCain and the Naval Academy. There was probably a very well qualified individual next in line for the appointment who did not have Big Macs connection.
Les said "A prospective Academy entrant must still meet the STRICT ACADEMIC STANDARDS to gain entry. i rest my case
You right wingers do not believe in afirmative action, but are willing to take it when it suits your needs. having that little checkmark on the application gives your daughter a leg up over someone who meets the Qualification standards who is next in line, but did not have a daddy in the military.
McCain graduating as low as he did in the class speaks for itself.
Ray said "Can you imagine General Tommy Franks saying that he supports John McCain and race was not the only issue on his mind?"

Gen Wesley Clark former SACEUR also endorses Obama. He and Powell just know leadership when they see it.

But Les
I love it when you call people cowards because they did not go enlist.
It's all the rw has for an arsenal against ideas. Shout it down and call the messengers cowards, anto american, etc.
Hopefully Bachman will find out how costly that tactic is. McCain has.

Don't have a snowmobile or harley so i di not think i could get a ticket

You Betcha !!

Wow, Bruce. Thanks for your enlighten retort to my posting. It continues to amaze me that you pose yourself to be an expert on all these different subject matters. I don't try to tell you how to be a plummer, because I only have the basic knowledge of plumbing and would never try to pose myself as a master plumber. So in the spirit of fair play, don't try to convince me or others that you know more about the things that I have lived and worked hard at that you haven't.

If you want to belittle my duaghter because I may be able to help her get into Naval Academy, thats a fight you don't want to start with me. So, I'm warning you-don't go there.

To gain entry into any of the service academies requires a Congressional appointment. So, my being a US Navy retiree guarantees nothing.

Once in the Academy, not only do you have to meet the academic standards, you also have to meet a requirement that studets attending the socialist orientation sessions at regular universities don't. It's called a Code of Conduct.

Most students in regular universities couldn't even begin to meet that standard.

I don't care if a person graduated at the top of their class or the bottom, graduation from any of the academies is a high honor and a great acheivement.

But I don't expect liberals to ever agree, since they look down their noses at those who wear the uniform of this country.

I will only say this about Powell's endorsement of Obama. I totally disagree with it and feel that Powell has betrayed John McCain. I also firmly believe that the race of the candidate had a lot to do with Powell's decision.

Wesley Clark is a disgrace to uniform he once wore and I have no respect for him or anything/anyone he endorses.

To say that they obviously recognize leadership when they see it doesn't mean anything. It only shows that they are sticking to their liberal ideology and nothing more. If you wanted to be fair about this you would have researched the leadership that John McCain displayed (and continues to do so)during his Naval career. Listen to what those who served under his command had to say about his leadership.

Obama can't hold a candle to it. Being a community antagonizer and a 3 year Senator with a non-existant voting record doesn't eclispe McCain's leadership credentials.

Your comment about attending the Palin rally was just dumb. All you had to do is go to the nearest Republican campaign office and get a ticket.

Harleys and snowmobiles have nothing to do with it. Believe it or not, I have liberal friends who ride Harleys and snowmobiles, and we are actually able to have adult discussions about the issues facing the country without ridiculous accusations and unfounded propaganda coming into play.

But, I guess if you had attended the Palin rally you would have been standing outside with the 5 or 6 happy people protesting than to be there in the spirit of fairness and bi-particenship.

I have actually listened closely to Obama's positions and done my own due diligence in researching his plan. I have come to my own conclusion that his plan is not what the country needs right now and I can not moraly agree with his position on many issues.

As for Joe, I don't care if the guy doesn't have a license, is behind on his taxes or whatever.

He's still a citizen of this country and had every right to ask Obama the question he asked.

The way he's been attacked by the Obama campaign and their willing accomplices in the media is disgusting and is something that every American should stand in opposition to.

But since the Obama campaign is following the Saul Ulinski handbook to the letter, I guess it's okay for them to win "by any means necessary."

Even if that means performing widespread voter fraud and character assasinations.

Performed just like a true Marxist.

You personalize everything.

I never pose as an expert I just cite my views. You are the one who is "right all the time i just give my view, not an expert opinion.
You brought up our daughter.
I would never interject my mother into a discussion with someone and then get mad at them because they retorted. Keep all discussion centered around yourself and don't drag other family members into it if you don't want them mentioned

So the university you attended did not have a student handbook that outlined expectations of conduct?
Mine did.
Retired SACEUR Wesley clark said being a POW does not make anyone a better choice for president.
He probably does not give an R A for your disdain for him.
I think his service record speaks for itself.

Character assasinations

Did you hear that Obama is a muslim?
Joe Plumber is getting his fame on Fox news. They are the ones who are exploiting him.
