Concrete Proof

Ray points to Barack Obama's comments to "Joe the Plumber" as evidence of Obama's socialist tendencies.

This morning George Will said we are a country that is based on spreading the wealth.
You love to keep saying you want to take care of the truly needy, disabled, etc. It takes taxes to do that also.
Your tired old story about having someone give their money that they earned directly to a pan handler is just garbage.
We liberals know that our few dollars need to be combined with others to be distributed for the welfare of others no matter their faith or convictions.
The next feew years should be a bonanza for you.Just think of the endless things Obama ill give you to whine about.
I can't wait until his first scotus appointment.

The socialist label they keep pushing in the McCain camp is a little bit shameful. It is clear they have no way to win based on the issues, so they have to settle on the personal attacks. And, just like classic Republican politics, it really doesn't matter if it is true or not, their philosophy being, "if we just keep saying the same thing over and over again, the American public will believe it eventually".

I think most people realize the context within which Obama was speaking. The "sharing the wealth" comment was simply related to spacious cavern that has opened up between the rich and the not so rich in this country. As he said on one of the morning shows last week, he is simply looking to take things back to the way they were in the 90's between the rich and the middle class. The rich paid more in taxes than the middle class...but as we all remember, the rich were still doing pretty well in spite of it all.

I just feel it is a shame and its very disheartening to see the mistruths perpetrated by the Republican party in this. If they are supposed to be SO much better for this country than Obama would be, then why can't they run their campaign promoting all of the things that would indeed be better?

I realize repeating one's words is a childish way in which to judge what they believe, but since I take a child-like approach to most of life, it is consistent for me to repeat Barack Obama's words to judge the path he would attempt to lead America down.

This morning, we played an interview he gave on Chicago Public Radio in 2001 as a State Senator.

In his own words, he said that it was a tragedy that the SCOTUS did not redistribute wealth as part of its civil rights activism under the Warren Court.

These are Barack's own words, not mine.

Face it, Barack Hussein Obama is a socialist who perceives there have great injustices in America and he is going to extract his revenge by focusing our economy on "spreading the wealth around" because as he put (again, his words) "America works best" that way.

I think he is an honest guy and I believe him when he says he thinks the Court should have included wealth redistribution in their efforts and that it is not too late to do it legislatively.

He is a socialist and I believe him when he says it.

Will's comment was not about the government taking from some and giving to others, at least I would assume it was not having read George Will for the last 20 years.

The difference between what you believe and what I believe is this.

I think our government is corrupt and the corruption is so rampant that we have an inflated federal budget that could be severely reduced by eliminating the fraud and abuse in the system.

Taking care of the truly needy means making them a priority. Do you really believe we spend our money so wisely at the federal level that there is no money to serve the needs of the truly needy?

Come on, do you ever pay any real attention to the details of the inner workings of our federal budget?

Have you ever even seen the federal budget?

I believe in priorities. It is a priority for me that our truly needy get the support they need and deserve.

It is a priority for me that we provide our military with the best equipment and provide them the best care when they return home.

It is a priority for me that we fix our roads and bridges because sound transportation infrastructure is critical to the development of our economy.

When you have real priorities, you fund them first and fully and then you go down the line, in order of priority.

IF you don't run out of money, then and only then do you subsidize the mohair farm (for me, never but our fearless leaders in Washington are doing it).

So just how much money does our country need in taxes? Have you put a number on it?

Is there no such number because we can always create more programs?

Just how much is enough?

Gee ray and I have heard you mention Will on your show just in the last few months.
You actually mention someone like Willl without reading his stuff in 20 years?
HMMM!
How much is enough?
Whatever it takes.

If we stop giving non profit status to churches just think how much more money we could add to our programs.
That would be a good start on fair taxation.

Having re-read my comment, it was awkward.

I have read Will for the last 20 years. Because of that, I would doubt he meant the government should take from some and give to others.

Also, another area of agreement. I have always believed churches should be taxed.

I am against non-profits the way they are constructed so tax them as well.

Ray, Joe the Plumber is an idiot.
He is being manipulated by guys like Hannity and the other joker from the WSJ. I actually felt sorry for him during that interview.
Joe does not understand the difference between revenues and taxable income.
If he ever gets to buy the business (should he pass his license test) I predict he will not be successful and it will not be the fault of the govt.
Four years from now ,when we have the next Presidential election, I hope the right will bring him in again for an update.

Let's hope for at least 4 new scotus appointments
