Tuesday on the Morning Show

State Senate candidate Eric Lusk was on the show this morning, talking about the contrast between the health insurance costs in New Hampshire and Maine.

Former state Rep. (and current District 24 Republican Senate candidate) Kim Davis, who is running against Libby Mitchell, was also on the show.

Elise Loschiavo, special events and public relations manager for Portland's Downtown District, came on to talk about the city's search for the perfect Christmas tree for Monument Square.

Alastair Wanklyn of FOX News called in to discuss the ongoing world financial crisis.

And of course, the presidential campaign, which has just two weeks to go, was also discussed throughout the show.

Ray discusses all in the audio link below, and your views are welcome in the comments section.

Hey, Ray. Speaking of socialism (which you have been a bunch lately, when talking about Obama), consider the following three quotes:

"I feel that we shall ultimately have to consider the adoption of some such scheme as that of a progressive tax on all fortunes."

***

"When our next system of taxation is revised, the national government should impose a graduated inheritance tax, and, if possible, a graduated income tax. The man of great wealth owes a peculiar obligation to the State, because he derives special advantages from the mere existence of government."

***

"The inheritance tax... is both a far better method of taxation, and far more important for the purpose of having the fortunes of the country bear in proportion to their increase in size a corresponding increase and burden of taxation."

***

You have an impressive knowledge of history, Ray, so I'm sure you can identify or deduce the author. I'm just curious what you think about them. (No snark intended or implied.)

The last one about the inheritance tax could habve been Buffet (not Jimmy) or Gates
Who are the others
ray will look it up anyway

"The man of great wealth owes a peculiar obligation to the State, because he derives special advantages from the mere existence of government."
That is a great quote and sums up why people who are successful should not mind sharing in a democratic society

Rigby don't be so easily impressed with Ray's knowledge of history.

Knowledge in itself is not a true measure of intelligence.

Ray seriously, I believe you are a smart guy, but in this day and age knowledge and information are readily available on any subject. One just needs to boot up "the google" people shouldn't be impressed by you or me ( not that they are) because we might come up with historical trivia to support our claims

Wow
The man McCain likes to think of himself as.

The man who had the river of doubt renamed for him.

Go Figure

I don't consider myself to be particularly smart. That is a label applied to me by others.

I have always quoted my Mother on the issue of knowing things:

"My son Ray knows a lot of things. He can cite baseball statistics for any player alive. He knows the Presidents, their wives, their families, our country's orgins, can re-cite the Gettysburg Address and most of the Declaration of Independence. He knows a lot of things, a lot of trivial facts that most people have never even heard of. I am just not sure how this is ever going to make him any money."

She said that when I was in high school. It is family legend now and until I started writing a newspaper column 12 years ago or doing this show five years ago, whenever someone wanted to know something, they would call me, I would tell them and then they would say with a smile ... did it make you any money?

I have never agreed with the progressive tax system. I believe it is wholly un-fair to expect that some will contribute greatly and others contribute not at all.

I have always believe we are all equal in value as people. It was a lesson my Father taught me that no matter how important you think you are or other think you might be, at the end of life, we all die, we are all put in the same ground and just as at birth, we are all equal.

I have always supported a flat tax idea because it means that every contributes an equal percentage of what they have.

For those who make a lot of money, they contribute a lot of money. For those who make a little money, they contribute a little money.

I have never understood why it is okay for some who are capable to be let off and not contribute to our society.

The poor man and the rich man have an equal obligation to our society.

The rich man because he has prospered and the poor man because he receives services from the state (meaning we the people).

The idea that capable people are allowed to not contribute is beyond me.

You are wrong, but the way Bruce.

I do not want to scrap the whole system. I simply want those who work in the system and those who benefit from the system to recognize that they have an equal role in the system working.

By the way, they are not all eager to solve the waste and abuse. They thumbed their nose at my information and they told Scott Lansley in a public hearing that he was wrong, that his information was wrong.

When he said he got the information from DHHS, the chairman moved the meeting on to another subject and did not allow DHHS to explain how the information Scott possessed could come from their office and still be wrong.

Thanks for your reply, Ray. By the way, all those quotes I gave you were from Teddy Roosevelt.

That's one to ponder, no?

Credit where credit is due, I do marvel at Ray's knowledge of dates and people significant in American History. I equally marvel at the flawed way he applies that knowledge to the issues of the day.

I was taught to learn history so as not to repeat the mistakes of the past. Ray has a disconnect in applying lessons of the past to the issues of the day.. How bad is he? He's so bad, I doubt he would take a cruise for fear of falling off the edge of the earth! :) Well sometimes it seems that way!!

Russell,

I thought you knew. I can see the edge of the earth from my studio window. It is just past Falmouth.

(wink, wink)

Ohh ray accused of thinking the earth is still flat !!
Even i wouldn' say that. Thinking the earth is only 6k years old maybe ( like Sarah palin)

Are you sitting down Ray. Good
I completely agree with you that assetts should be included in the formula for getting LIHEAP or Maine Care for kids.
I personally know someone who receives Mine care for two kids, while he owns a waterfront summer home valued at over 300k by the town it is in.
stay at home wife.

Why should they receive assistance when a 2 working operson family whose wges put them over the limit cannot.
I did not realize this was the case until about 6 months ago. It amazed me.
I do not want to end the assistance ,but we do need to look at the assetts clause.
The person in question is a right wing repub who is against this type of assistance but willing to take it.

So, Bruce, tell me, why should a person get an education, work hard from the ground up, become successful and then have to endure someone like your socialist hero Sen. Obama take it away from them so he can "redistribute the wealth."

Tell me, where's the incentive for businesses to become successful and, as a result of that success create more jobs, when Obama's inane tax plan would punish them for success.

When small businesses, which are the backbone of our economy, get taxed into oblivion by Obama's plan, how will they be able to create jobs, as Obama claims they'll be able to do, and remain competitive.

Oh, but wait. I forgot what Obama is striving to eliminate. It's not hunger, homelessness or un-employment. His plan is to eliminate the great world evil of CAPITALISM. And he's going to start by destroying the small businesses in this country with his entitlement program funding tax plan. Once he's destroyed the small businesses in this country, then he'll target the big businesses.

Yeah, I can't wait to see our country become Russia under Stalin or all of us living as North Koreans do today. Yeah right, I'll go down fighting first!

Obama's re-distribute-the-wealth plan will further suppress our economy by adding another trillion dollors to our national debt. That's trillion with a 'T'.

For Obama to say that 95% of Americans will get a tax cut under his plan is good theatre. What he's doing is giving another entitlement mentality handout to the 45% of the 95% who don't pay any taxes at all!!

Yeah, that's the solution, give more handouts to the deadbeats.

I did that and it does not bother me.

Coming from someone who does not own a small business and a payroll. I don't give your conclusions any more weight than Joe the plumber

How are things at the shipyard?
and the union there

I expect bonjen to jump in now.

Les Gibson said...

Oh, Bruce, forgive me. I forgot that if I don't own a business or post a payroll I can't possibly know anything about the subject and have no right to comment.

If that were the case, you shouldn't be commenting either.

I don't give a rats behind if you give my comments any weight or not.

Joe the plummer did a great service to the entire country by exposing the Socialist Hero's campaign for what it is. All this guy did was ask the Dear Leader in Waiting a question and the next thing you know, the liberal hit squad is all over him like a cheap suit. Josef Stalin would be proud of the Dear Leader in Waiting tactics.

The Marxists are hiding in plan sight and no one wants to see them.

Things at the yard are fine.

I don't give a rat's behind about the union as we don't have one any longer. What we have is a bunch of union thugs occupying our hall, using trumped-up lies against our elected officers for justification, with complete disregard for the voice of the membership.

Another example of the Marxists hiding in plan sight.

Bruce said...

Les I have never served in the military can I comment on that?

Gee you have no problem taking the benefits and raises the union has gotten you over the years.

Hopefully Joe will someday get his plumbing license . Seems like it is taking him a long time.

And when he starts his business I hope he understands the difference betwen revenues and taxable income. if not he may go out and spend all that revenue prematurely.

His question waqs a good one, but all his appearances on the Fox network where they are pumping him lines are making him look like an idiot and a discredit to our plumbing profession.
