Elise Loschiavo, special events and public relations manager for Portland's Downtown District, came on to talk about the city's search for the perfect Christmas tree for Monument Square.
Alastair Wanklyn of FOX News called in to discuss the ongoing world financial crisis.
And of course, the presidential campaign, which has just two weeks to go, was also discussed throughout the show.

Knowledge in itself is not a true measure of intelligence.
Ray seriously, I believe you are a smart guy, but in this day and age knowledge and information are readily available on any subject. One just needs to boot up "the google" people shouldn't be impressed by you or me ( not that they are) because we might come up with historical trivia to support our claims

I don't consider myself to be particularly smart. That is a label applied to me by others.
I have always quoted my Mother on the issue of knowing things:
"My son Ray knows a lot of things. He can cite baseball statistics for any player alive. He knows the Presidents, their wives, their families, our country's orgins, can re-cite the Gettysburg Address and most of the Declaration of Independence. He knows a lot of things, a lot of trivial facts that most people have never even heard of. I am just not sure how this is ever going to make him any money."
She said that when I was in high school. It is family legend now and until I started writing a newspaper column 12 years ago or doing this show five years ago, whenever someone wanted to know something, they would call me, I would tell them and then they would say with a smile ... did it make you any money?
I have never agreed with the progressive tax system. I believe it is wholly un-fair to expect that some will contribute greatly and others contribute not at all.
I have always believe we are all equal in value as people. It was a lesson my Father taught me that no matter how important you think you are or other think you might be, at the end of life, we all die, we are all put in the same ground and just as at birth, we are all equal.
I have always supported a flat tax idea because it means that every contributes an equal percentage of what they have.
For those who make a lot of money, they contribute a lot of money. For those who make a little money, they contribute a little money.
I have never understood why it is okay for some who are capable to be let off and not contribute to our society.
The poor man and the rich man have an equal obligation to our society.
The rich man because he has prospered and the poor man because he receives services from the state (meaning we the people).
The idea that capable people are allowed to not contribute is beyond me.

I do not want to scrap the whole system. I simply want those who work in the system and those who benefit from the system to recognize that they have an equal role in the system working.
By the way, they are not all eager to solve the waste and abuse. They thumbed their nose at my information and they told Scott Lansley in a public hearing that he was wrong, that his information was wrong.
When he said he got the information from DHHS, the chairman moved the meeting on to another subject and did not allow DHHS to explain how the information Scott possessed could come from their office and still be wrong.

Credit where credit is due, I do marvel at Ray's knowledge of dates and people significant in American History. I equally marvel at the flawed way he applies that knowledge to the issues of the day.
I was taught to learn history so as not to repeat the mistakes of the past. Ray has a disconnect in applying lessons of the past to the issues of the day.. How bad is he? He's so bad, I doubt he would take a cruise for fear of falling off the edge of the earth! :) Well sometimes it seems that way!!

I completely agree with you that assetts should be included in the formula for getting LIHEAP or Maine Care for kids.
I personally know someone who receives Mine care for two kids, while he owns a waterfront summer home valued at over 300k by the town it is in.

Why should they receive assistance when a 2 working operson family whose wges put them over the limit cannot.
I did not realize this was the case until about 6 months ago. It amazed me.
I do not want to end the assistance ,but we do need to look at the assetts clause.
The person in question is a right wing repub who is against this type of assistance but willing to take it.

Obama's re-distribute-the-wealth plan will further suppress our economy by adding another trillion dollors to our national debt. That's trillion with a 'T'.
For Obama to say that 95% of Americans will get a tax cut under his plan is good theatre. What he's doing is giving another entitlement mentality handout to the 45% of the 95% who don't pay any taxes at all!!

Joe the plummer did a great service to the entire country by exposing the Socialist Hero's campaign for what it is.
