What did you expect? Where was Collins? I guess she did not want to be seen with another Republican You Betcha !!
Hey I hear Joe Plumber does not have a plumbing license and does not understand the difference betwen revenues and taxable profit. It is too bad that people like him have no curiosity to find out the truth. No curiosity, wait that is Ms Palin. ( I got my knowledge of foreign lands from reading "all of them" books and magazines)
Hope she autographed your hat Ray
The bright side is Pat was on Ted's show today Her stand on the casino aside , she is more fun to listen to very bright
I think Pat is wonderful so I am glad she can sit in, even though we disagree about important things. I think the world of her and admire her misplaced passion.
I don't seek autographs, so no she did not autograph the hat I was not wearing.
Collins has her own race to win and a schedule to follow. Olympia does not, although we could have done without her 18 minute speech as we waited for Sarah.
I don't know whether Joe the Plumber has a license or not, but I think he understands that under Obama, our taxes will rise so he can redistribute the wealth of this nation in his new world order.
Obama is beginning to remind me of another great orator from 1930's Europe, a snake oil salesman if you will, who preyed upon the fears of average people, fed them some pretty words and then did exactly the opposite of what he said.
Obama may grow jobs, but they will be government jobs, not private sector jobs.
Barack Obama does not believe in the private sector. He has never been a part of it. That in itself ought to be a red flag.
Non-profit, government funded work, the state senate and then the United States Senate.
He will destroy the private sector because he does not understand that when you make the risk too big for wealth people to take, they simply pack up their bags and go home, meaning they no longer take risks.
Without risk, no jobs are created, no problems are solved.
Socialism is anti-American. I guess that makes Barack Obama anti-American.
He does give a nice speech though.
Too bad Obama did not debate Palin. She would have cleaned his clock.
Didn't you hear Bruce? I think Collins might have changed parties! You never mention her utter the word Republican anymore. In fact on one of her latest ads she closes with " I am Susan Collins "INDEPENDENT" and I approve this message.
Joe the Plumber is a great American. He said this morning, regardless of the amount earned, he doesn't think it is fair for people who earn more to pay a higher rate. If there was a flat rate imposed I wonder if he would be happy when he found out what that rate was and how much it would take out of his check. Hannity and Rush and even Ray at his paltry hundred plus large would now be able to live in a lifestyle that they deserve instead of "redistributing the wealth" and being forced by government to do without to help support the poor people in this country. Another few years of Republicans in the White House and there will be so many poor people in this country we will be getting foreign aid from China - wait I think we are now!
I just think it is so incredible how those that quote the bible on pro life issues and gay issues forget about the part that says something like "The way you treat the least amongst us is the way you treat me- JC".
Ray said "Obama is beginning to remind me of another great orator from 1930's Europe, a snake oil salesman if you will, who preyed upon the fears of average people, fed them some pretty words and then did exactly the opposite of what he said."
Wow!! If you are talking about who I think you are, that goes way beyond anything The right has been jumping on Conressman lewis for saying
And all along i thought that was your job playing on people's fears
Ray also said "Too bad Obama did not debate Palin. She would have cleaned his clock"
In your dreams Ray. Not everyone hears the same messages you do from people like Palin You are in the minority, here in the U SA Thank GOD for that.
Jesus was a liberal and how you guys have perverted his message to justify your own biases is amazing.
Joe Plumber will make a heckuva business man. he does not understand the difference between revenue and profits. It show how effective the right wing message is when guys like him believe because he might have 250k in revenues that means he will be taxed on 250k I gotta agree with you . He does represent your group of Americans AAnd now you know. he does not have a plumbing license.
How you treat the least of these now means pay more taxes so the government can go out and create government programs that buy votes for politicians?
You are drinking or just naturally out of your mind.
Don't quote the Bible to me unless you have a basic understanding of it. Treating the least of these was not about the government, it was about us as individuals and how we help our neighbors.
The government is corrupt. God wants nothing to do with corruption.
This stuff may work at Democrat Underground, but it will not pass for logic here.
---------------------
Yes, yes, yes ... poor Joe the Plumber, how careless of him.
He forgot and asked "the chosen one" a question about his tax policy. Little did he know that he would now become the problem.
Of course, he should have. It certainly cannot be that Barack Obama wants to raise taxes and that citzens might be concerned about it.
No, raising taxes is apparently not only patriotic (says Biden) but Godly (says Russell).
Get real.
If government spending were the key to economic growth and job creation, Maine would be swimming in new jobs and our economy would be flourishing.
George Bush has grown the federal budget by over a trillion dollars a year in his eight years (no, contrary to the lying media, not even most of it was military) and yet what has that gotten us?
Barack wants to increase spending a trillion dollars a year and raise taxes on Americans.
Yes, Joe the Plumber, you are clearly the problem and hopefully God and "the chosen one" will forgive you for asking such a question.
Russel forgot only you and your particular denomination can have an understanding of the bible. Heaven forbid someone who thinks it is a nice piece of literature should quote or paraphrase from it.
I'll be honest with you Ray, I have been "born again". Not in a religious sense, but in a social sense. I am a Vietnam Veteran and an "Endowment" member of the NRA. I have never been politically affiliated. I always vote for, whom I believe, is the best person. I was an adamant McCain supporter in 2000. I even reluctantly voted for W after he won the Republican primary that year.
Eight years older and eight years of Bush (et al) have totally transformed me. I am tired of being lied to. I am tired of the likes of Hannity, O'Riley, Ingram, Limbaugh, Savage and others continually defending the indefensible with total mistruths and distortions. Take a realistic look at where we are now and try to justify a continuance of such policies. Because no one logically can, all we hear about are Muslims and Bill Ayers. Now McCain is using the same automated calls against Obama that were used against him by Rove & W, PATHETIC!
BTW: Since I am only a social drinker, I guess from the perspective of the politically blind and faithful, I have lost my mind. :-)
"Treating the least", was a sincere comment. I don't see why I have no right to quote the bible, unless I misquote it. There was no mention or implication in my entire response about government programs.
Since you brought it up,, I'll stick my neck out and go 100% on your turf. I feel Question 1 pertains more to the psychological issue of taxes that a financial one. I refuse to spend $1.29 on a 20 oz Coke at a convenience store when I can buy a 67 oz bottle at a supermarket for $1.25. It is inconceivable to me that anyone who does buy the 20 oz bottle for $1.29 will not buy one at $1.35. Imperfect as it may be, without the increased revenue, a number of Mainers, including children will do without healthcare.
Be against the tax, I don't have a problem with that, but what is the alternative people against the tax propose? Someone in your position Ray, SHOULD at least give some guidelines about an alternative to help the people who won't get the healthcare they would have had otherwise.
A recent show on PBS profiled the true stories of a number of families without healthcare. I don't know how anyone could watch that presentation and feel good about the few dollars a year they will save on a drink of whatever without at least presenting a reasonable alternative. Please tell me why I am wrong to quote the Bible when what you appear to do is jubilantly crush the proposition without regard to or even options to the consequences of defeating the bill.
Remember, someday you might be in the minority when the proverbial two wolves and a lamb decide what's for dinner.
Unless you want to deny reality, please let me know how else people like these will be helped with no taxes and no government assistance on health care. I am unaware of any conservative groups including churches, with any program to assist people in similar circumstances. Lets not have these big government programs with their inherent waste and fraud, but unless we do, what is the alternative???
The Savings Offset Payment, the current law that taxes health claims paid is how DIRIGO is funded.
The Insurance Superintendent increased the SOP or T-A-X on health claims paid 16 million dollars a couple of weeks ago.
When we repeal the beer-wine-soda syrup and health claims tax that was put in during the cloak of darkness without a public hearing on April 15th 2008, the SOP will still be in place and funded with an additional 16 million dollars over last year .... or did you not know that?
Probably not, because the "keep the tax" crowd is lying to Maine people.
Yes, I said lying. They are lying about this issue because that is what tax-and-spend political hacks do, they lie. They instill fear and attempt to distort the issues.
They are political liars.
When we repeal the tax, the SOP is still in place.
The truth is DIRIGO is an utter and complete failure never having met one stated benchmark ... established by those who created it and now run it.
Yes, I called them political liars because they are lying to Maine people and preying on their fears.
DIRIGO will not go away when we repeal this tax. It has 16 million dollars more than last year to waste on a program that is a "Noble failure."
The fellow who I saw in a debate on PBS (he has been on your show) did not make a compelling argument to retain the tax. He emphasized dubious statistics about lost sales and employment. I just get amazed how small business people's first priority is to hire. They just never want a new car, boat or vacation. :)
I think it's prudent to see where the health care issue heads next year under a new presidential administration. Based on what you say, I would not support the tax at this time.
I just have one question: Do you really think the other side is composed of a bunch of liars?? :)
Back on topic, I just see Colin Powell endorsed Senator Obama. One argument he stated was that his choice of Sarah Palin showed poor judgment and she was NOT ready to assume the Vice Presidency. Sharing someones values is not sufficient to feel comfortable with them in such a potentially critical position. I share Bill Maher's values, I wouldn't want him as VP!
I guess what I cannot seem to understand is how Barack Obama is qualified to be President and yet somehow Sarah Palin is not qualified to be Vice President.
Politically, she has more experience than he does.
Yes, she is a bad ole conservative but other than that, what makes her un-qualified?
I wish someone, somewhere without spin, without rhetoric would explain to me what makes Barack Obama qualified to be President.
Dan Quayle had more experience than Obama in the Senate and more accomplishments.
Can you explain to me why he is qualified to be President without giving me something negative about anyone else?
-------------
To directly answer your question.
Yes, on the issue of the DIRIGO tax, I do believe the other side is a bunch of liars on this issue.
Ray said "I guess what I cannot seem to understand is how Barack Obama is qualified to be President and yet somehow Sarah Palin is not qualified to be Vice President".
They are both "qualified' as laid out in the constitution. It is just that Obama has more knowledge of that parchment than Palin
And as Powell said yeasterday, he has an intellectal curiosity. An dwe know that that is not something Palin has. Her cuteness style may work in a state with more moose and deer than people, but not for the US
Ray we have something in common. I too watch the other sides shows "as long as I can stomach them" I watch the RWW group like Hannity, "as long as i can stomach him' and Ingram, "as long as i can stomach her",Oreilly, "as long as I can stomach him" ( I love it when his anger and petulance shows) and your show,"as long as i can stomach you" Which is awhile because you are amusing. Matthews is entertainment, just as the shows I mentioned above. None of you should be taken seriously by any one with half a brain. Of course there is the problem, the rww ( your following) has less than that. Getting back to intellectual curiosity. The right wing sees that as a liability rather than an asset. If religion still had its stranglehold on the world. We would still be thinking the sun revolves around the earth. BTW Copernicus's excommunication was rescinded in Fall 1991 imagine that.
For you to say Powell's decision was based on race just shows your true colors more, just as your statement comparing Obama to that other guy in Europe in the 30's. I have said in the past that I hope Obama does not have a filibuster proof Senate. I have changed my mind, because we have a lot to undo and your fringe group will try to keep it from happening.
I think Powell summed up the majority of Americans feelings when he said he was upset with the radical (your) element of his party.
Ray said "You cannot address Obama's qualifications without putting them in a perspective against Palin." Gee Ray Comparing and contrasting is what is done when talking about things like qualifications. Obam and Biden are running against McCain palin. So we have to compare. What do you want me to do compare him to you?
Qualifications other than constitutional. His brain and capacity to learn. has shown to be far superior to the other choices. You can't deny that Obama is smarter thenthe people he is running against.
You said "Why would you endorse a guy you disagree with on important issues" . Because Powell is putting the "Country First' Maybe I am "naive". There you go again accusing people of being dishonest.
Given the same circumstances, I believe that Powell would endorse a Hillary / Biden ticket over MCCain Palin.
For you to accuse Obama of being like the guy from Europe in the 30's. shows your true colors. That type of comparison probably is one reason why Powell is abandoning his party
You should be comparing Obama to Reagan. he drew huge crowds too.
I am not nor will I ever be an American apologist.
I am proud of America and proud that our citizens still have a chance, at least until January 20th, 2009 if Obama wins, to succeed in life fianacially.
Obama is like Reagan like a flea is like a lion.
The only thing Obama and Reagan have in common is that their last names both have the letter "A" twice.
Of course you cannot simply address Obama and why he is qualified beyond the simply Consitutional qualifications because the arguement that he is more qualified than Palin is utter non-sense.
I don't need a comparison. I know about both sides.
Just tell me why your guy without mentioning anyone else, is qualified to be President.
What has he ever done that gives him such an advantage?
I thought I was not supoose to mention the other side.
General Wesley Clark retired SACUER said being shot down in combat does not make you more qualified to be president. He endorses Obama. BTW He is white in case you hadn't noticed.
I told you 1 I think Obama has the brains to make him a good president Also He shares my values so that is why I believ he is more "qualified' 2 I like the idea that he graduated near the top of his class and that he has done social activist work. 3 And he does make a good speech. Communication skills are important.
Now to compare him to Mccain McCain was an underachiever in school Got into the Acadamey because of his father. Graduated without honors near bottom of class. And he exercised bad judgement picking his VP ( In my view)
BTW I watched the Hucksterbee show this weekend to see Joe the plumber come one. I love how they were saying if taxes went up his potential business would have to lay off workers. The idiot from WSJ kept hammering this point. Most businesses hire and layoff employees based on the need due to amount of business they have. Not waht their taxes are. Your side wants us to believe a company making money and busy as can be is going to lay someone off because a tax goes up. That is, to use your vernacular, STUPID
Having been a plumbing contractor with a license and employess that also had licenses, I only laid off when there was no work for them to do. I never said, gosh taxes went up I guess I have to lay you off. Newell Augurs (beverage guy) claim that Maine will lose hundreds of jobs because of beverage tax is bogus too
Ray, Do you really think Colin Powell would have endorsed Palin if she was a black woman?? Some people really do put "country first", not just use it as a slogan.
Powell, like me has been roughed up over the past eight years. I became an NRA Endowment member eight years ago. I would not join them today. I can't stand by and put my guns ahead of healthcare, the economy, the Iraq war and other Constitutional rights that we have lost. I voted for W in '00, I won't vote for Snowe today. Powell was lied to and duped by the false WDM claims. Most of us recognize when we are being lied to and are sick of it.
McCain only made it through the Naval Academy because of his father and grandfather. Fourth from the bottom is nothing to be proud of. He crashed five planes! He refused to be let out of HH ahead of time, but in the context of if he did, how he would shame his father and grandfather and never get any respect from any of his subordinates. He would have been out of the Navy and who knows what avenue his career path would take? Maybe selling women's shoes!
If McCain is qualified and I believe he is that now, more so is Robert Byrd by your standards ( I would guess) and (was) Jessie Helms and Strom Thermond. Should any of them have been on the ticket when they were alive?
That seems ridiculous, I guess it would be helpful to understand what YOUR standards are for being qualified. Bruce and I have satisfied ourselves, we just can't guess your qualifications. I can start:
A BA degree, even if it took going to five schools, none of which had entrance standards.
Has Bruce's values.
The devil and witchcraft have been exhumed from her body.

My true colors, I have lived a life that does not discriminate based on color or gender, just on ideas.
My life backs that up and I am comfortable with that.
For you to deny the race issue in Colin Powell's endorsement is either naive or dishonest.
He even said it played a role.
He disagrees with Obama on important issues, at least from his past and well-known statements.
Why would you endorse a guy you disagree with on important issues.
Ray said "You cannot address Obama's qualifications without putting them in a perspective against Palin."
Gee Ray Comparing and contrasting is what is done when talking about things like qualifications. Obam and Biden are running against McCain palin. So we have to compare. What do you want me to do compare him to you?
Qualifications other than constitutional.
His brain and capacity to learn. has shown to be far superior to the other choices.
You can't deny that Obama is smarter thenthe people he is running against.
You said "Why would you endorse a guy you disagree with on important issues"
. Because Powell is putting the "Country First'
Maybe I am "naive".
My true colors are red, white and blue.
After you have given me the "stand alone" version of Barack's qualifications, then compare him side by side with John McCain.
This should be interesting.
I thought I was not supoose to mention the other side.
General Wesley Clark retired SACUER said being shot down in combat does not make you more qualified to be president.
He endorses Obama. BTW He is white in case you hadn't noticed.
I told you
1 I think Obama has the brains to make him a good president
Also He shares my values so that is why I believ he is more "qualified'
2 I like the idea that he graduated near the top of his class and that he has done social activist work.
3 And he does make a good speech. Communication skills are important.
Now to compare him to Mccain
McCain was an underachiever in school
Got into the Acadamey because of his father.
Graduated without honors near bottom of class.
And he exercised bad judgement picking his VP ( In my view)
BTW
I watched the Hucksterbee show this weekend to see Joe the plumber come one.
I love how they were saying if taxes went up his potential business would have to lay off workers. The idiot from WSJ kept hammering this point.
Most businesses hire and layoff employees based on the need due to amount of business they have. Not waht their taxes are. Your side wants us to believe a company making money and busy as can be is going to lay someone off because a
tax goes up.
That is, to use your vernacular,
STUPID
Please go on from there.......
No wonder palin looks so good
150k spent in the last 3 months on her wardrobe.
I guess John Edwards expensive hircut was not so bad
Michelle Obama howed up on a tv show wearing $100. dress. how dowdy
